Varthur Main Rd festival

Tonight I am going to my gardener's house to celebrate this festival in his village. But since it's a 3 day festival, we got stuck in day-1 traffic yesterday.
Traffic was CRAZY! No signage to warn drivers of the impending road block, no traffic cops to help with the chaos (well, there was one, but he was hanging out past the chaos), and TONS of festive festival goers happy to be part of the experience.
Since we weren't in a hurry, it was fun to kick back and enjoy the ride. Here are some photos of Whitefield, where I live.

It took us 45 minutes to drive a stretch of road that usually takes less than 10

Rickshaw doubling as a delivery van, sweet limes and pineapple. We were stuck on the road next to him for awhile. He's actually in the on-coming traffic lane since our side of the street wasn't moving.

This is how you have a key made. A man makes a copy of your key using only a file and a vice grip. I've had two keys made this way and they surprisingly work!

Bystander watching the festivities & traffic jam.

Banner letting everyone know who is responsible for the festival.

I got out of the car for awhile and walked around - it's not like the car was going to move any time soon. I got a nice smile from this garbage man so I took his picture. :-)

Temple on the side of the road.

It's watermelon season and they're being sold EVERYWHERE - whole or by the slice

This family was watching the festivities on the side of the road. The girl kept waving as she ate her coconut.

Traffic cop doing NOTHING

Now we understood why traffic wasn't moving... the festival "float" was taking up an entire side of the street. All traffic had to be detoured into the oncoming traffic lane.

And the float was being pulled by people! No wonder it was moving slowly...

But EVERYONE was having a good time.

In India you just have say "It is what it is" and let go... if you need a lot of structure or expect things to work a certain way it will drive you mad. It's a good life lesson.
