Trip to Delhi - Day 1
So excited...
Going to Delhi for the weekend, with friends, and without the kids (sorry, but some times it's fun to just be Helen and not "Mom")
A driver arrived at 7:30a to take me to the airport, we picked up John and Jenne on the way and didn't hit the road until 8:00a. Our flight was leaving at 10:00a and it can be a 2 hour drive to the airport in traffic, so we were hoping we wouldn't be cutting it too close. As we drove to the airport, Jenne received a text message from the airline stating our flight was delayed by 45 minutes. Cool! I'll get to have a cup of coffee at the airport.
We got to the airport, checked in, went through security, got a cup of coffee, etc. and our flight was delayed again.
We were supposed to land in Delhi at 12:00p and ended up arriving at 3:00p. We had to be at the ring ceremony at 7:30p. Not much site seeing on Friday.
We stayed in the center of town in an area called Caughnaut Place. Our hotel was right on the inner circle so after checking in we went for a walk around the area. Lots more harassment from beggars than I'm used to, but we were in the big tourist area so that's to be expected.
We made it to the ring ceremony which was a reception in the small ballroom of a fancy hotel. It was an intimate gathering just for close relatives, friends, and out of town guests sponsored by the groom's family. Here we got to meet the bride and groom. I also tried my hand at Bhangra dancing with the bridesmaids on the dance floor. Me up there with 4 beautiful, 20-something Indian women in Saris... I must have been quite the sore thumb.
We had a great time and fell into bed around 1:30a.
